Torrid Will Be The First Plus-Size Retailer To Show At NYFW

American plus-size brand Torrid will be the first plus-size brand to show at NYFW: The Shows, in association with modelling agency, IMG. The collection will be a preview of the brand's Spring 2018 collection, with over 40 looks featured on the runway.

The catwalk will be used as a showcase for the brand's third annual Model Search competition, where the second round - the semifinal for the final top ten contestants - will be held. Judges for the third round will be Ashley Nell Tipton (Project Runway), make up artist Pricilla Ono and model Candice Huffine, who regularly features in Torrid's campaigns. Successful contestants from the runway will go through to the third and final round, where the winner is selected by Torrid fans.

“As a brand that is committed to helping all customers find her personal style, we at Torrid feel it is important to showcase the diversity of plus offerings on the most influential stage in fashion,” said Torrid CEO, Kay Hong. “Ultimately our objective is to show great fashion combined with body positivity and inclusivity.”

In 2016's Model Search, there were over 10,000 applicants, and this year the search has widened, spanning to Canada for the first time. Online submissions kicked off in May, and live castings have been taking place across the States and in Ontario, Canada. If you're in the US or Canada, you still have time to submit an application online, with the deadline just over a week way on 3rd August.

The winner of Model Search will be crowned the Face Of Torrid 2018, and wins a Torrid modelling contract and full wardrobe. They will become a brand ambassador, hosting events and store openings around America, as well as featuring in seasonal campaigns and appearing on the brand's social media channels.

Catherine Bennett, senior vice president and managing director of IMG Fashion, said of the NYFW addition: “We appreciate the brand’s commitment to size inclusiveness and body-positive message and believe they are an excellent partner as we continue pushing the boundaries of the fashion industry.”

NYFW is both an exclusive and prestigious event, and it's great to see companies who offer a positive and inclusive message become a part of it. We're looking forward to seeing all bodies being represented on the catwalk - roll on 12th September!
