This Woman Ran 100km Across The Tarahumara Mountains... In Sandals

When preparing for a race, what do you make sure you have? Quality running gear, comfortable trainers, maybe even a FitBit to track your pace. According to this badass of a woman, all it takes is a pair of sandals and a One Direction shirt.

The female runner took part in the official 100km race across the Tarahumara Mountains in Guachochi, Mexico, and has bowled the internet over with such an incredible achievement after a photo of her (below) went viral.

Despite many professional athletes taking part in the 31-mile race, numerous local runners beat their times, with 27 year-old local, Miguel Lara, winning the overall race.

Communities around the Tarahumara area are famous for being good runners; amongst the indigenous communities, running is seen as a spiritual experience for the participant, and as a sport is taken very seriously. Plus, it was only mere months ago that news outlets were celebrating the achievements of María Lorena Ramírez, a Tarahumara woman who won the Ultra Trail Cerro Rojo race in Puebla, wearing shoes entirely made of rubber tyres.

As well as being a total badass, the anonymous woman - alongside Ramírez (who came second in the same race in 2016) - is not only inspiring everyone to get on their running shoes, but is showing the sports world that women are here, and they're ready to run circles around everyone else.
