One Dad Has Launched An Inspiring Make Up Brand For The Future Of His Young Daughter
Bill Xaing had never really worried too much about feminism - and never saw why he should - until his daughter, Yarie, came along.
Whilst doing some research to look into the best ways to raise his daughter (because being a dad to a daughter can sometimes require some Google work), Xaing came across reams and reams of information surrounding how society's standards and pressures can impact the upbringing of a young girl, and follow her into womanhood. Determined to make sure that his daughter faced the world with the best support and resources for his daughter, and shocked by the effects of the beauty industry, he took it upon himself to create a brand that empowered and inspired, rather than pressurised and bullied. The product? RealHear Makeup.
Made to help create a better social environment, RealHer Makeup focuses on telling women how amazing they already are, rather than telling them what problem areas to fix or what flaws to cover up. Each product comes with an affirmation to motivate the women who wears it, with 'I am fearless', 'I am unique', and 'I am unstoppable' just to name a mere few.
Not only friendly to women, the LA-based brand is friendly to animals and the environment, with all products being cruelty, paraben and sulphate-free. On top of that, 20 percent of profits go to the American Association of University Women, a non-profit organisation devoted to the development of education and leadership programmes, scholarships, training and career support for women and girls.
The RealHer's press kit said about the brand:
“Our mission is to empower and bring out the best in the modern woman: to know her worth, to feel proud of who she is, to love each and every one of her flaws, and to not fear her individuality [...] The modern woman faces a crisis of identity. Society so often pressures us into trying to be the perfect ideal, that we feel as if we just can't be ourselves. The thoughts we imbue into our daily makeup rituals can have a profound impact on our confidence and well-being.With each application, RealHer hopes to inspire the wearer; to be herself, to be powerful, to rule the world. It doesn't ask us to be perfect, to be a mother, to be a CEO, to be the perfect beautiful doll, but rather invites us to continue being ourselves, and that which defines us as an individual - and it's liberating.”
I think it's fair to say that Yarie Xaing is one proud little girl!
